Guess what I heard? The infamous "#GirlBoss", Sophia Amoruso is stepping down as CEO of Nasty Gal. She started Nasty Gal as an Ebay vintage store and it has turned into a multimillion dollar business. She has already admitted that she had no real experience to run a company. And I'm sure when she started on Ebay, she had no clue Nasty Gal would turn out to be so successful. She made the announcement on Nasty Gal's vlog saying that she has been debating whether or not the role of CEO is "the job that I want or the job that I'm best at. She has now appointed Sheree Waterson as CEO after hiring her only a year ago.
It just sounds to me that Sheree has more experience and is more capable of running this multimillion dollar company. And I applaud Sophia for making this decision, instead of trying to take on a job that she knows she cannot handle, she is woman enough to hand off a company she has built from the ground up to someone who can handle it and will make Nasty Gal grow even more.
But don't get it twisted, she isn't disappearing from Nasty Gal forever! Sophia will still be part of the executive board of Nasty Gal. “While I find myself really capable of leading our customer,” Amoruso told Re/Code, “… the company need[s] a CEO with operational expertise and the ability to take Nasty Gal to the next level of maturity.”
-xoxo, Tori B.
