10 Books You Should Read to Your Little One

Getting your child to fall in love with books at an early age is so important. Plus it's perfect for a little cuddle time and bonding. Reading to your baby helps build vocabulary, stimulates imagination, and improves communication skills. The more you speak to your child from the very beginning, the better it is for his/her growth and development.

Reading to your baby introduces him/her to the concepts of stories, numbers, letters, colors, and shapes, and gives him/her information about the world around her. It also builds memory and vocabulary skills. By a year old, your baby has already learned all the sounds she needs to speak her native language. The more words (s)he hears, the better (s)he'll be able to talk.

I love reading to my baby boy, and though it may not seem like he's totally into it as well, I know he enjoys it. These 10 books are books that he loves and I love reading to him. Some are classics and some are books you've probably never heard of before. Check these books out, read them to your little ones, and watch their little faces light up.

1.

How to read "Brown Bear" to get your child talking (written for toddlers, but the activities are super-useful for children with language delays

Not only in this book will your child learn about animals, but colors as well.

2.

Pat the bunny book

A great first touch and feel book for your child.

3.

What writers can learn from Goodnight Moon. You will never read it the same again!

A nice bedtime story with bright colors and black and white magnified details.

4.

Another bedtime story, teaching your little one different animal sounds and counting to ten.

5.

A fun and silly book teaching your LO all about their ABC's.

Tristan received this book from his Gigi at my baby shower. Before I read it, she said it made her cry. My boyfriend's mom and I are very much alike and we can get very emotional about things. So, when I read the book I could totally understand why she cried. As a parent, this book teaches you to cherish all the moments with your little one that you have now. My LO is growing so fast right before my eyes, I feel like I just had him a couple of months ago, and he's 8 months already :(

7.

This little boy loves Mickey Mouse and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Using characters that you child knows and loves is a great way to teach him/her shapes, colors, numbers, and letters.

8.

Another one of Tristan's bed time favorites.

9.

Another classic. Tristan loves reading this book and singing the song during storytime at the library.

Best book ever for ALL ages goes to The Bible! I have this baby bible for Tristan, a gift from my neighbor. It's always good to start sharing the Bible stories and the Word of God to your child at an early age. He loves the pictures in his Bible, and the stories are simple. It's also good to point out certain details. For example, when talking about Noah's Ark, point out all the animals on the ark and make the sounds the animals make to make it more interactive.

Go pick up these books from the bookstore or check out your local library and head to the kids section. Ask the librarian about different events for your child's age group like storytime. My library even has Spanish baby storytime! Start reading to your baby now, they will thank you later!

~XOXO, Tori B.~
