Part
of being the boss is dressing like the boss. Dressing the part will not only
make you look like you're the HBIC but, it will give you the confidence you
need to tackle any task and achieve your goals.
Pretty simple, write down your goals for the day,
week, month, or year. But, be sure to write down your game plan on how you are
going to reach your goals. Give a timeline, write it down step-by-step. This
will help you stay on track.
This has been my biggest challenge. If you want to pursue a
career and start your own business, it's very important to find someone who has
that experience in your field, has answers to your questions, and who is
willing to provide you will information and resources to help you become
successful as well. Unfortunately, this part of being a #girlboss has been a really big challenge. A lot of
successful women entrepreneurs that I have reached out to have been rude to me,
ignored me, or gave me the run around. Don't get discouraged when this happens,
you will find someone. Ask family members or friends if they can refer you to
someone.
Do
more than what's required of you. Taking an extra step will bring your closer
to your goal.
Allow yourself room to evolve. Your business and brand isn't going to be an overnight success. Make changes when you need to. Something isn't
working out? Fix it, change it, make it work (in my Tim Gunn voice). You have
to be patient, creative, flexible, and open-minded if you want your business to
grow and be successful.
Put yourself and your business out there. Go on Eventbrite and look up events that
pertain to your industry in your area! Check out events on Facebook. Have
business cards ready.
Sometimes,
it's best to just shut up and listen. Listen for suggestions, be open to constructive
criticism. You may be an expert at what you do, but it's always room to grow.
Keep your ears open.
Always remember, you represent your brand and your company.
The way you dress and conduct yourself impacts your business. Know the line
between work and play. Dress and act accordingly.
Everything may not work out the way you planned the
first time. But, if first you don't succeed, try, try, try, try, keep trying...
and try again. Come up with another approach. Explore other options to get to
your end goal.
Don't ever forget to recognize your mentors and those who
have helped you along the way to your success. Be a mentor to others, pay it
forward and help someone else succeed.
